Description

An Otoroshi is a yokai creature from Japanese mythology and folklore. They are said to be creatures which guard gates, temples, or holy ground. To do this they often perch high up, such as on tori gates as shown in the painting because these gates mark the entrance to the sacred grounds of the temple, and from these high up perches will pounce down upon their prey and devour them.
