I started this piece inspired by James Gurney's maquettes. I made the dragon out of Sculpey and posed it on my grandfather's teapot. Sadly, the maquette did not survive, but it was critical to staging the dragon in my illustration. This probably falls into urban fantasy, I wanted that feeling of early mornings at a tea shop like I remember growing up in Hong Kong. The bulk of the work was done in Procreate, with the final stages in Photoshop.
