Description

Saints are heroes of the faith, those who lived a life to spread a message and, often times, died as martyrs for their beliefs. Plastic Saint borrows from religious iconography, evoking the halo of a holy figure and posture of an angel. The seagull, and many species of seabird, consume plastic because it resembles jellyfish or seaweed. Plastic poses a huge threat to marine life due to its ability to travel far distances and break up into smaller fragments that are easy to swallow by the smallest sea creatures. Plastic Saint elevates a common bird, highlighting its importance in the ocean ecosystem and modern threats caused by plastic pollution.
